After a moderately long hiatus, Painless Git is nearing completion! My third (and hopefully last; these take a lot out of me) tech training book, Painless Git is the distillation of everything I've learned over the course of helping teams move to and use git over the past seven years.

If you would like a review copy for your blog DM me! I'm also open to providing copies for drawings/giveaways.

Boosts also welcome!

My ten year old Mac Mini has finally given up the ghost. At this point it was basically relegated to being the computer the kids would use for homework if all the other computers are taken.

I replaced it with a :raspberrypi: Raspberry Pi 4 and if anything it seems to be a little faster than the Ancient One it's replacing.

I’m not exactly hiding in the basement from my in-laws but they have been in my house for 12 hours now and they aren’t in the basement so there’s that.

Late to the game, but I just started playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 on the Switch, and I'm really enjoying it. The mix of JRPG and Minecraft works for me.

Also, I can confirm: if you build the toilet on top of the highest peak in the village the villagers will still use it. Oddly enough this is important to the story. 🤷🏼‍♂️ 🚽

New Years: discovered my son is diabetic.

Valentine’s Day: discovered the same son is Celiac.

I’m kind of scared of what St Patrick’s Day is going to bring...🍀

Is this a thing I didn't know about? Posting your biography as a review of War and Peace on the B&N website? Are they using B&N as a dating site? Did someone's API get all messed up? Is this a performance theater type joke?

The floating video frame feature in #firefox is a game changer for me. Use it everyday.

My local public transport system is piloting an Uber pool-like system where you can get on-demand point-to-point transport, but for $2.50 per ride. I kind of love it. I really like that the transit authority looked at the disruptive upstart and said “yeah, let’s get in on that!”

MLK's "white moderates" quote from Letter from Birmingham Jail is an absolute fucking classic, and a great explanation of how lukewarm acceptance can be extremely difficult.

I MUST make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically feels that he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time; and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

Boosts appreciated, because I find the "boosts appreciated" trick working for other people and I figured I'd try once

Thinking it's Thursday when it's actually Friday is like finding a $20 bill in your pocket. Thinking it's Friday when it's actually Thursday is like finding a bill for $20 in your pocket.

Pretty cool that Emoji v13 is adding a mammoth, which is 𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 a Mastodon, right? :mastodon:

The best thing about the Fediverse is that it bursts all the filter-bubbles I've built up on other social networks over the years ❤️

Firefox's new Picture-in-Picture feature is really great. It's simple, easy to use, and does exactly what you want it to be. Good work, Mozilla!

Oh hey there, randomized anxiety attack. Haven't seen you for a while, how's it going? Look, I'd love to chat for a while but I've got some meetings that I'm in charge of today, so maybe we could catch up later? Oh, you're just gonna hang out here for a while and maybe take off around lunch, or maybe just chill with me all day? that's cool, that's cool.

Updated an existing chapter of Pacifica. I need to rename it because the current chapter name makes less and less sense all the time.

You know the concept of "semantic satiation", where you look at or say a word so many times it loses all meaning?

I'm writing a report for work and discovered that it only takes two passes for the word "psychiatry" to look utterly and completely wrong.

Writing in the train this morning. I love it when I get a good seat and can do something creative. It feels like a good portent for the rest of the day.
